Where to Stay in the Mara Triangle

The Mara Triangle is the less visited side of the popular Maasai Mara National Reserve. Visitors who choose this intimate section of the Mara are treated to uncrowded daily game drives and intimate, luxurious accommodation.

Camps within the Mara Triangle

There are only two camps within this northwestern part of Maasai Mara National Reserve. They are

  • Little Governors’’ Camp

This luxury-tented camp is a property of the Governors’ Camps.   It is an intimate, secluded camp. It has 17 spacious tents perched around a watering hole.  A road transfer from the airstrip takes you to the Mara River, where you cross by boat to the camp.

  • Mara Serena Safari Lodge

This safari lodge, served by the Mara Serena Airstrip, is at the centre of the Mara Triangle. It has 74 rooms, all non-smoking. There are five family units.

Camps and Lodges around the Mara Triangle

  • Bateleur Camp

The tents are situated in secluded spots so that occupants can enjoy a serene, relaxing safari in Mara. The camp has spectacular view of the plains.

  • Mara Siria

This bush camp offers spectacular aerial view of the meandering Mara River. This camp has 10 luxurious tents. In addition to game viewing, visitors enjoy guided walks and biking excursions.

  • Kichwa Tembo

 It is situated in Oloololo Game Ranch, which borders the Mara Triangle.  The camp sits on the edge of a riverine forest that meets the beautiful plains of Maasai Mara. Activities at this camp include nature walks, Oloololo Escarpment trail walks and night game drives.

  • Sanctuary Olonana

It is located at the base of Siria Escarpment. It is an eco-friendly camp with 14, en-suite, river-facing tents. Visitors can watch hippos in the river from the tents or from the open-air dining room.

  • Kilima Camp

The 12 luxurious tents at this camp have private verandas where occupants can watch activity in the plains and on the river. This luxury camp is located on Siria Escarpment.

  • Mpata Safari Club

It is situated on the edge of Oloololo Escarpment, accessible in about 45 minutes from Oloololo Gate.  It has 23 cottages, a restaurant, a library and a bar. In addition to the club’s unique architecture, some of the cottages have outdoor Jacuzzis.

Campsites in the Mara Triangle

There are public and private camps.  The public camps are Oloololo Campsite, Iseiya Campsite and Eluai Campsite. Oloololo Campsite has showers but for the other two, you need to carry water.

The private campsites are in two groups- non-professional and professional campsites. The professional campsites are open to professional tour operators only and they are Ndovu Campsite, Kiboko Campsite and Kambi ya Mungu Campsite. The non-professional campsites are Olarro Campsite, Dirisha Campsite and Maji ya Ndege Campsite.
