Check into a spacious suite with a large bed, beautiful wall paintings, an en-suite bathroom, a comfortable armchair and coffee table. Drive from the Fairmont Norfolk Hotel to Wilson Airport, which is about 15km away. Board a Safari Link flight to Samburu airstrip. This flight takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Samburu is a beautiful northern frontier county with expansive open plains. This thirsty land depends on the meandering River Ewaso Nyiro to water forests of doum palms on its banks and serve the Samburu tribe in this region.
Our guide will transfer you from the airstrip to Samburu Intrepids Lodge on the serene banks of River Ewaso Nyiro. Herds of elephants and mean faced buffalos trend the shallow waters on the river bank dwarfed by tall doum palms on the other side of the river. This luxury camp has spacious tents furnished to cater for families and large groups. They have large poster beds, a lounge with elegantly draped sofas and a private deck where you can view the river from a raised spot.
Check in, and walk to the outdoor terrace of the open air dining room for lunch. Enjoy the view and the gentle breeze from the river as you adjust to the heat of the northern frontier. The chefs will treat you to a finger licking meal, taking into account the needs and preferences of your kids.
Explore the national reserve in an afternoon game drive to see elephants, Alex, Melman and leopards. There are rare specials to see here such as the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, beisa oryx, Somali ostrich and the gerenuk antelope.
Samburu Intrepids is ideal for your Kenyan family expedition because as part of the Heritage Hotels brand, it has activities tailored for young intrepids. In addition to game drives that are fun for kids as well as adults, children mingle in the Adventurer’s Club where an experienced naturalist educates them about conservation, the Samburu culture and wildlife. In the evening, get entertained by Samburu warriors clad in traditional clothes and jewelry that resemble those of their close cousins- the Maasai. You shall also learn about their culture during the evening education talk.
Spend the next day in game viewing expeditions in the morning and in the afternoon. Children will be learning from the experts and having a great time within and around the lodge.
After meeting Alex, Gloria, Melman and Marty in Samburu National Reserve, have breakfast and board the road transfer vehicle to Samburu airstrip so you can leave this region. Our guide will organize picnic lunch that you can enjoy on this trip. Leave Samburu en-route to Wilson Airport in Nairobi for another flight to Lake Naivasha.
In about 30 minutes, the Naivasha bound Safari Link flight will land and our guide will transfer you from the airstrip to Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort. This lodge affords you a stunning view of the floor of the Great Rift Valley, Lake Naivasha at the foot of the resort and Mount Longonot standing guard around the lake.
The Great Rift Valley & Golf Resort sits on Eburru Mountain. The rooms in this lodge face lush gardens and the golf course. You can stay in the lodge room, Longonot twin or double villas. These units have different bed sizes. The lavish Longonot double villas have a spacious living room, a separate dining room and a kitchen. The master bedroom is on the third floor so you can have privacy with your spouse as the kids take the bedrooms on the lower floor. All rooms are beautifully furnished with handmade furniture, carpets, bedside lamps and spacious bathrooms.
Enjoy an afternoon cruise on Lake Naivasha where your kids can say hi! to Gloria snorting in the fresh water. Have a drink in the clubhouse at the Great Rift Valley Lodge as your kids interact and learn in the Adventurer’s Club. Other activities to while the time away are playing golf on the scenic 18 hole golf course, a nature walk in the lodge or a horse back ride of Eburru escarpment.
Explore Lake Nakuru National Park the following day. It is another scenic attraction in the great gorge, about an hour away from the Great Rift Valley Lodge. The main attraction within this park is Lake Nakuru, where millions of flamingoes cover the rim giving it a beautiful pink ring. Animals to see in the park include Alex, Melman and Marty. There are hundreds of birds on indigenous trees around the lake and in the forest within the park.
Get back to the Great Rift Valley Lodge for lunch and spend the afternoon within enjoying various activities with your kids such as horse riding.
Have breakfast at the Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort. Drive to the Naivasha Ebony Curio Emporium to see and buy crafts from experts at discounted rates. Get back to the lodge for lunch. Later, leave for the airstrip, for a flight to Ol Kiombo airstrip in Maasai Mara.
A road transfer open-sided cruiser will be on standby at Ol Kiombo Airstrip for a speedy transfer when you land. Our guide will take you to the plush Mara Intrepids Lodge and you can sit back for this adventurous ride through the vast plains of Maasai Mara where Alex rules the jungle. You will also spot Marty and Melman in the savannah browsing the lush grassland and thickets.
Mara Intrepids is excellent for this family holiday because it is on the banks of Talek River where you can watch Gloria from the private deck of your tent. Accommodation is in spacious, ambient tents with large poster beds, a reading desk, lounge area, and fully furnished en-suite bathrooms.
Listen to the roars of Alex in the forest along with the snorts of Gloria in the meandering waters of the river passing by the dining tent and your sleeping quarters.
Children will spend the next day in the Adventurer’s Club while you enjoy morning and afternoon game drives and nature walks. Nonetheless, your kids can tag along for the game drive so see wildlife from a close range. Later, cool off in the swimming pool or enjoy a drink as you watch the sun set in the plains.
Say goodbye to Gloria and the other species that kept you company in Maasai Mara and welcome another expedition, this time at the coast. Drive to Ol Kombo Airstrip for a flight to Wilson Airport in Nairobi. Board the next flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to Mombasa International Airport. Hop from this airport to the serene Voyager Beach Resort just 10km from Mombasa.
Voyager Beach Resort is paradise. This sea themed lodge lets you dock in different regions through a variety of cuisine and entertainment shows. Its roomy garden and sea view rooms have modern facilities such as electronic safes, air conditioning, cable television, tea and coffee makers as well as a mini bar. Do it all over again the next morning to get the last dose of adventure in Kenya. Later, drive to Mombasa International airport for a flight to Nairobi. Our guide will transfer you from Wilson Airport to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in time for your flight out of Kenya. You will say bye to Alex, Gloria and the gang, but carry fond memories of this wildlife safari expedition.
