Combine the Plains with the Sea
You will love this wildlife adventure because it will start your adventure on a high, in the upscale surburbs of Gigiri in Nairobi. This section of the city houses various ambassadorial residences and the UN Complex. The Tribe Hotel, within this upmarket area, will take you in on your first night in the city and treat you to a sumptuous meal.
This wildlife adventure will take you to the endless plains where lions, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, cheetahs and leopards roam. The famous Maasai Mara National Reserve will house you for a few days so you can explore its savannah and riverine forests. Enjoy daily excursions in an open sided van cruising through the knee-high grassland cover to reach animals in thickets and bushes.
Later, leave the sun-baked savannah for the sun-bleached sand of the Coast. Stay a footstep away from the white sandy coastline of the Indian Ocean, at the lavish cruise-themed Voyager Beach Resort. Your family will have a great time moored in a resort with fantastic activities for kids, in the Adventurer’s Club, while parents have the ocean to explore. You don’t want to miss this wonderful safari.
You will spend the first night of this wildlife safari at the Tribe Hotel. This city hotel has an air of sophistication loved by business travelers who wish to have international quality service in the city. Leisure seekers adore the Tribe Hotel because its ambient rooms make living in luxury so easy and the spa, gym and other recreational facilities within take all the stress away. Monotones, high walls and ceilings, and intricately designed furniture are some elements that stand out in the interior of this plush resort.
The Tribe Hotel is situated in an up-market neighborhood in Gigiri, close to the UN Complex and ambassadorial offices. Check in on half board basis, and leave for an afternoon excursion of the city. There is so much to see in Nairobi. For a laid-back adventure, you have Karen Blixen Museum, Nairobi Gallery, Nairobi National Museum and City Market. For a thrilling wildlife adventure, enjoy a game drive in Nairobi National Park or tour the Giraffe Center to learn about breeding and upkeep of Rothschild giraffes.
Leave the Tribe Hotel after breakfast for a flight to Maasai Mara. Drive to Wilson Airport for the flight to Ol Kiombo Airstrip in Maasai Mara. It is a 45 minutes flight to paradise in the middle of lush savannah plains. A road transfer to Mara Intrepids will follow shortly after so you can check in, have lunch and prepare for an afternoon excursion.
Mara Intrepids is a luxurious tented Camp tailored for the whole family. It sits on the most beautiful section of the national reserve, with Mara River a short distance away. The 30 tents are superbly furnished with large four poster beds, mats, lamps, safari chairs and sofas. It is the perfect way to live wild but with modern comfort in an en-suite bathroom within the spacious tent.
After lunch, tour the plains for a game drive into the habitat of ferocious cats such as lions, leopards and cheetahs. Other animals in this region are wildebeests, gazelles, zebras, giraffes and elephants among others.
Get back to the camp for the evening meal, and a chance to watch the sun go down. Sit on the private veranda of your tent and marvel at the scenic panorama of the riverine area.
The next day will give you three game drives in the morning, afternoon and in the evening. In between, you will have time to relax in the lodge and kids can participate in the Adventurer’s Club. Mara Intrepids, as one of the Heritage Hotels properties, has a club where kids can learn while having fun. The activities on offer include making miniature traditional houses, learning about wildlife and fun games such as hide and seek.
Wake up early for the last game drive in the morning. Get back to Mara Intrepids for a delicious breakfast ahead of your flight to Mombasa. This flight takes about 40 minutes from Nairobi to Moi International Airport in Mombasa.
Voyager Beach Resort is about 20km from the airport. It has 236 cabins with private balconies facing either the tropical garden or the pristine ocean. These cabins are spacious and magnificently furnished in an aquatic theme.
Voyager Beach Resort is a lavish lodge with a variety of restaurants on site. Drop in for exquisite Italian cuisine at the Minestrone Restaurant or settle for finger-licking seafood, ala carte style, at the Smugglers Cove.
Leave the luxuriant Voyager Beach Resort, say goodbye to the ocean breeze, the ocean, the sand and fly back to Nairobi. You may decide to extend your holiday or fly out of Kenya.
