The 2 ½ hour journey is an wonderful experience travelling through the pineapple plantations of Thika Town to the lush green banana, tea and coffee plantations of Central province.

Pull into Outspan Hotel in Nyeri town for lunch. Most of the buildings in this resort date back to the colonial period. Characteristic white washed walls and brick roofs mingle with the colorful flowers and trees. The central part of Kenya has fertile soils. It is no wonder the tropical gardens and lawns within this hotel are picture perfect. Mount Kenya guards the region from its peak hidden in the clouds and you can see it while dining in the terrace of Outspan’s Sherry Restaurant.

Get back to the road transfer vehicle at 3:00pm for the short trip to the opulent but eerie looking Treetops Lodge in Aberdare National Park. A gigantic wooden building raised on stilts dwarfs the forest of indigenous trees around a watering hole. Elephants love this part of the Aberdare National Park and these animals will troop in often. From the deck, you can see elephants close to the lodge as well as other species roaming in the park. The Aberdare has breathtaking waterfalls, rivers and mountain ranges only found in this part of Kenya.

Relax in your room or enjoy the view of animals from the deck overlooking the watering hole.

Lake Nakuru

Start your morning at Treetops Lodge with a delicious meal while watching the scenic landscape. Depart for Lake Nakuru National Park in a road trip that will get you to this location at lunch time. Check in at the luxurious Sarova Lion Hill Lodge and let the chefs treat you to excellent cuisine served in a beautiful dining room looking out into the garden of acacia trees and lush lawns.

Sarova Lion Hill Lodge has modern facilities in its range of chalets such as tea and coffee makers, showers and razor outlets. These rooms overlook the lake and from the private deck, you can see flamingos covering the lake.

Watch this remarkable sight first hand through an afternoon game drive in the park. In addition to the millions of flamingos, there are Rothschild giraffes, buffalos, water bucks, baboons, black and white rhinos as well as lions. This is also a birding paradise with hundreds of species. Indeed, you will have a great excursion in this side of the Great Rift Valley.

Maasai Mara

At 8:00am, leave Sarova Lion Hill Lodge to get to Mara Simba Lodge in Maasai Mara. It is a road trip through the Great Rift Valley with hills, escarpments and mountains along your way. Capture all of them on camera.

Step into the endless savannah of Maasai Mara and enjoy the ride through the grassland teeming with gazelles, zebras, elephants, giraffes and wildebeests. Mara Simba Lodge is a lavish resort on the banks of the meandering Talek River. This course sees it all during the great annual migration because animals have to cross this river to get to the lush grassland.

The one storey cottages of Mara Simba Lodge have amazing facilities to give you a comfortable place to stay. You can settle for double, twin or triple beds. Have lunch with the scenic backdrop of the river visible from the dining room.

Explore Maasai Mara in the afternoon for sightings of the big cats, giraffes, elephants, wildebeests and hundreds of birds around the river and in thickets and bushes.

You have a second day of adventure from dawn to dusk. Start this day with a game drive, then have breakfast and relax in the lodge until lunch time. Later, go to the plains for the 4:00pm game drive until dinner.

Nairobi

Culminate your wildlife safari with an aerial view of the reserve from a hot air balloon. Hop onto a large basket that will then be propelled into the sky for a 45 minutes safari over the reserve. Take pictures of the savannah, marvel at the first light of day break in the horizon and enjoy a gentle breeze in utmost tranquility. This safari attracts a small fee but the experience is worth it. When you land, the guide will take you to a laid out bush breakfast complete with champagne and meals you will love.

Thereafter, drive back to Nairobi in about six hours. Check into a hotel or head to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport immediately for your flight out of Kenya.
