Lewa Wilderness has wowed and satisfied the needs of leisure travellers for decades.  This family operated lodge continues to meet and surpass the hospitality needs of every guest who stays there.  The Craig family still calls it home so guests can be sure they will enjoy a relaxed, tranquil safari in Lewa Wilderness. The host family has been rearing cattle in the ranch since 1922.

Guests who are looking for an enchanting African countryside teeming with rare and popular wildlife species agree that Lewa Wilderness is the best destination for a quiet safari. Some of the species to see are the black and white rhinoceros, sitatunga and Grevy’s zebra. There are miles and miles of plains to explore in Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.

This intimate lodge has nine rooms only. Some rooms face the valley while others overlook a 5-acre garden. With a bountiful supply of fresh ingredients from the farm, the chefs craft succulent meals, and serve guests in a shared dining area where guests mingle every day.

Activities and experiences

One of the most interesting activities in Lewa Wilderness is horse riding.  The stables of this lavish lodge have over 30 horses to choose from, and there are ponies too. Horse riding here is for amateurs to experienced riders.

Other thrilling adventures are guided walks in the conservancy, game drives, cultural visits, camel riding, biplane flights and visiting local schools. There is a tennis court too and a swimming pool.


Lewa Wilderness is an intimate lodge design to offer a home away from home. This stylish lodge has nine rooms only. Five of these spacious rooms sit on a hill yielding unrivalled views of Marania Valley.  Four rooms are adjacent to the main living area, overlooking the garden.

All rooms are en-suite, and they have a sitting area furnished with a fireplace and a fully stocked mini-bar.

Facilities and Amenities

This lodge has en-suite rooms with a sitting room, a mini-bar and a shared deck.  All guests dine in the shared open-air dining room. Lewa Wilderness also has recreational facilities like a tennis table, a tennis court, a pool table and a swimming pool.  Other general use amenities are a gift shop, a massage room and a safe deposit box.

Location/How to Get to

The mode of transport is either air or road. By air, the daily scheduled flights from Wilson Airport in Nairobi fly to Nanyuki Airstrip. Guests are then transferred by road to the lodge. However, there are private charter flights to Lewa Downs Airstrip, which is just 30 minutes away from Lewa Wilderness.

By road, the journey from Nairobi to Lewa Wilderness takes about five hours, and it is an exciting road trip across the countryside.


The chefs get ingredients from the 5-acre farm in the lodge. This organic garden guarantees regular, healthy meals catering to a variety of dietary needs. The drinks available include an assortment of house-wines, beers and soft drinks.

Events & Meetings

Lewa Wilderness is one of the first lodges in the conservancy.  It is a great venue for formal and informal events like team building safaris, graduation parties and family gatherings. Since it is a small, intimate lodge, the staff is devoted to ensuring the events take place as planned and every guest’s needs are satisfied.

Garden Rooms

Four rooms face a 5-acre farm that is one of the distinct features of this lodge. The rooms are situated on a well-maintained lawn, and they are next to the main living room that also serves as the dining area. These rooms are en-suite; they have a sitting area with a mini-bar, and a fireplace too. The garden rooms are suited for families, and they have a shared veranda.

Hillside Rooms

Lewa Wilderness has five rooms overlooking a valley. They are situated on a hill, with spectacular views of the northern plains of Lewa.  Each room has a unique layout to offer uninterrupted view of the plains. All hillside rooms are en-suite.
