Set on the rolling plains of Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Lewa House is an intimate, family-run property offering accommodation to 18 guests only. Owned and run by Sophie and Calcum Macfarlane, guests staying in this house enjoy a private holiday with a team of courteous and skilled staff to meet their hospitality needs. In the evening, guests sit around a campfire to share stories and experiences after excursions in the conservancy.
The buildings in this lavish house are made of materials that blend into the surrounding. Other eco-friendly features are harvesting of rain water and recycling of grey water. Lewa House is set on a hill; hence, guests have uninterrupted view of the nearby Mathews Ranges, Ol Kokwe Mountain in Samburu, and the snow-capped Mount Kenya.
Activities and experiences
Since Lewa House is within a wildlife conservancy, a game drive is of course the best way to spend time. A skilled guide takes guests around the conservancy in open game drive vehicles. There is a lot to see in this conservancy from rare species like Grevy’s zebra to elephants and wild dogs.
Other must-attempt activities while staying in Lewa House are game walks to see smaller animals, learning about conservation efforts in Lewa, camel riding, biplane flights, swimming, horse riding, and visiting local schools and communities.
Lewa House has a capacity of 18 guests. There are two types of cottages that are en-suite family cottages and earth pod cottages. These cottages are spread out to offer privacy to guests. Each family cottage has two en-suite rooms and a shared deck from which guests can view the enchanting hills and endless plains. The earth pods are eco-friendly cottages designed to blend into the wild savannah plains. They are en-suite, with an outdoor bath where guests can shower under a sunny or star-lit sky.
