Great Rift Valley Golf Course

3 Activities you Must Attempt in Eldoret

3 Things to do in Eldoret

Eldoret is the main town in Uasin Gishu Country, and it is popular with visitors touring the North Rift. This town is in the Great Rift Valley, so it boasts of excellent weather most time of the year.  It has an international airport and good infrastructure linking this town to other parts of the Rift Valley and the main towns such as Nairobi and Nakuru. In fact, Eldoret is one of the largest towns in the country.

Things to do here are

  • Athletics
  • Playing golf
  • Canoeing

Athletics

Uasin Gishu is home to many of the country’s famous athletes. For that reason, there are several internationally approved training grounds in the area. Athletics is popular with young and the old in this part of the country so you might even jog with one of the country’s present or future gold medalists. Training centres include the International Olympic Committee/ IAAF High Altitude Training Camp, Chepkoilel Campus grounds and Kipchoge Keino Stadium.

Golf

Join exclusive golf clubs in the area and be part of some of the country’s oldest golf clubs. The Nandi Bears Club dates back to 1928 while Eldoret Club was established in 1924.  Nandi ears Club is a members’ only club, you can only join it through existing members.

Apart from excellent golfing and networking opportunities, these clubs have breathtaking scenery and they provide amazing view of the North Rift.

Canoeing

Explore Lessos Dam from a canoe and possibly fish your dinner too. Previously, sailing was possible on the dam but now, there are only local fishermen looking for tilapia and offering affordable boat rides to visitors. Moi University’s Boating Club uses the dam too.
