The Mwangalio Tofauti Exhibition
Creative Background
On a sidewalk in Nairobi, an artist tries to get the attention of the passers-by using a display of his handiwork on the ground and via word of mouth! He is young, he is creative, he is looking to make money as genuinely as he knows how. Elsewhere, even everywhere, young men and women carry cameras just to capture the beauty of the trees, the people, the clouds and the birds of the Central Business District! Indeed, Kenyan people are creative!
A Passionate Panorama
Passion and raw talent fill the air, and these are being tapped into! Art in Kenya is vivacious! It showcases the allures of the various Kenyan tribes.
The Venue
Just like the PigaPicha Exhibition of the Goethe Institute, of the recent past, the 2010 Mwanagalio Tofauti Exhibition, in association with the National Museums of Kenya, will be held at the Nairobi Gallery! The exhibition officially opened on the 10th September and will run till 12th December, 2010.
Artistic Motive
The purpose is the exploration of nine angles of photographers by Kenya! Art and photography will be merged thus a diverse set of artists will be present. Some of those whose creations will be projected include:
- Jakub Barua
- Wambui Mwangi
- Jim Chuchu
- Barbara Minishi
- Miriam Syowia Kyambi
The diverse range of artists will ensure that the culture of Kenya is amply explored.
Nairobi Gallery Treats
The Nairobi Gallery is situated just next to Nyayo House. The exhibition is not one to be missed, whether during a weekday or during the weekend- the doors will be open every single day between 9 am and 6 pm! After a day’s work, the photography can be a simple way of winding down. During the weekends, it can be coupled with shopping at the Maasai Market, a stroll through the city with friends and family, or lunch or dinner at the Nairobi Serena Hotel very much in the vicinity!

Just like music, photography and art are the other revolutions in the budding nation that the young generation and the rest of the population does not want to miss out! They are excited, they are hopeful, they are dreaming some of the most creative dreams and turning them into tangibles! They could use an audience- let’s join hands and see them through. Let’s also celebrate our potential!
